Finally Nail It!

I call my cousin Shosho to chat with her, after saying our "Hi's", she suddenly asked me if I had anything to do tomorrow. I said, "No."
"I'm going to go do my nails. Do you want me to book you an appointment?" She asks.
"Ok. Which place are you going to?"
"Nail It." She replies.
I've been wanting to try 'Nail It' forever! And it is only few minutes away from my office, but I don't know why I haven't gone there yet. Thanks to Shosho she booked me an appointment and I met her there the next day.

I love this chair!

The place was nice, very organized and clean. I love the white, black and blue with a hint of silver décor. I loved the shelves with a large and up to date fashionable collection of nail polish colors. I loved the flat screen in the middle between the two seating areas. But my favorite…was their comfy chairs! As soon as I sat, and sunk into the chair I knew I didn't want to move at all! ;p

Next time I want to do some nail art.

The ladies suggested I try their Organic Treatment, for a much needed Mani & Pedi. The ladies, Janet (the tall skinny one) and Jennifer took over. They were sweet and kind and constantly asked me if I was feeling comfortable. The treatment they gave me exceeded my expectations. It soothed and relaxed me. I am hooked and I'm certainly going back very soon, and this time I want to try the Almond Treatment.

Oh yes! and I did catch up with my cousin Shosho
(garagna garga!).
It was a wonderful day!

Chocolate Rahash Cake

Chocolat Rahash Cake is a ticking BOMB!

Qatuliya! (Killer!)

I'm going through most of my cooking books, marking pages of interesting recipes I want to try during Ramadan. It isn't a grantee I'd cook all of them, but I'll try some nevertheless. Actually I've already started, I've been spending a lot of my free time in the kitchen lately, trying out new soup recipes and others such as main meals and desserts.

One of the recipe I tried is this yummy "Qatuliya!" Rahash Chocolate Cake from AlThawaqa cook book.
Here are the ingredients:
3 packs of chocolate pound cake (I used 1 1/2 pack)
250g Rahash (I advice you use good quality rahash sold at AlWatan Sweets instead of the packed one sold at super markets.)
300g Nutella
11/2 cup of chopped pecans (I used sugared hazelnut which we use at Gelato)
1 1/2 cup of Thick Cream (KDD Qaimar)
Chocolate Syrup (I didn't use)

- Crumble the Rahash in a deep dish with a fork then add the Nutella and thick cream.
- Cut the cakes into slices and line them up side by side in a serving dish, pour 1/3 of the chocolate rahash mix and spread evenly, add some little pecans.
- Line up on top the remaining cake and spread some the remaining chocolate rahash mix and garnish with the rest of the pecans and decorate with chocolate syrup.

Note: Rahash is a sesame seed sweet. In this recipe I used a trifle bowl instead of serving dish, and I used regular pound cake instead of chocolate pound cake just to ease on alsa7na (density of the chocolate on chocolate).

Upgrading My Shoe Closet

Time to upgrade my wardrobe when it comes to designer wear,
and in my point view the best and most comfortable
platforms I've ever worn are Sergio Rossi's.

I was checking out their site and liked those.
For awhile I've been looking for
red platforms and here they are!!! ;p

I'm so in love with those flats!

Weekend

I should call this post Fashion Avenue, like the show on Style Channel, where the lady in the show travels to places around Europe and looks for bargain designer
pieces on a budget for parties and events,
and snacks and eats at famouse cafe's and restaurants.

I wasn't planning on shopping that day. The plan was breakfast and take the boys to play while I cozied up with a book. Then my sister decided to join us, and of course my sister wants to go check out few places after breakfast and I joined her.

I loved their hot chocolate. Planning to go again for
breakfast sometime this week just to order the hot chocolate.

We had a very yummy breakfast at Paul. I ordered the scrambled eggs with a hot chocolate, which is very good, and I stole a small piece from Fahad's croissant.

First we stopped at Virgins. Fahad wanted to buy some books. I found this book called Tall Carmel Macchiato by Kuwaiti author  Yousef AlBader. It is a very amusing book, basically talking about his discovery to certain words and phrases in the English language and their meaning. It is my first Arabic book in a very long time and surprisingly a very light and entertaining read.
Dropping Fahad and Abdulaziz at Game Whizz, my sister,
Ahmed (who didn't want to play) and I headed to The One.

She got these for our parents room,
to hang it on the side of their room as decore.

We've been going back and forth to check out this Table set.
Finally we decided to get the whole set for the fromal dining room.

 The design is extravagantly beautiful!

Ahmed fell in love with this ballon table.
He wanted to buy it with his KD0.250 which
he carried in his pocket.

We fell in love with this console and mirror.
We sat for almost 20min.looking at is
and trying to decide where it would go best in the house?
As charming as it is, we couldn't find a place for it in the house.

After spending almost an hour at The One, we headed to Vavoom. I was out of moisturizer. I use Shiseido and the lady at the counter was kind enough to add some samples of the same kind of moisturizers I use. I keep them in my handbag  or save them for short trips. My sister convinced me to buy few eye liners from Makeup Forever. They had amazing colors, but I stuck to the basic charcoal, brown and dark green. My sister got the same as the ones I got, but also added gold, purple, light green and blue. We also got a beach bag each as gifts from Makeup Forever :)

Aldo were having a sale. These cute slippers caught my attention and the faux snake skin multi colored clutch is chic! I also loved this long necklace. Did you notice how they all match together?
It was a long lovely day.

Home Made Pesto

Yesterday I made pesto for a soup for my lunch. The pesto was soo good I couldn't wait for my soup to be ready and slathered some on milk rolls and it was so pungent and full of flavor!

I used Kuwaiti basil (rai7an) for this recipe which is a bit stronger in flavor than the regular basil.

2 tbsp pine kernels (toasted with olive oil)
5 tbsp olive oil ( you may need more)
2 bunches basil, stems removed
4 garlic cloves
1/2 cup grated parmesan

But everything in a food processor and whizzzzzzz!

Movie Review - X Men First Class

Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.

Hmmm....

I adore Jeniffer Lawrence.

 Hmmmm....?? ^_^ Yum?

Just don't ask me why...
But I'm in love with Michael Fassbender

And of course who isn't in love
with James McAvoy

Here is the cast of the new X Men...
I loved the 60's retro style of the movie.
Enjoyed the movie, except for the hacket scene,
even Abdulaziz loved it.
can't wait for Kumar's visit with DVD's
hope he'll have a clear copy by then.

Gifts for Teachers

I know by the end of the year teachers get lots of perfumes as gifts and it is so cliché.  Previously I gifted teachers some scarves, Spa Time gift vouchers, or AlShayaa gift vouchers.

This year, I thought of giving them something Kuwaiti. Yesterday I was at gift packaging shop and picked up those cute boxes and thought of filling them with Ghriaba (Middle Eastern biscuits), then they can use the box as a jewelry box.

So I called my friend UmSalah, owner of Home Made Chocolate, and asked her if it was ok for me to send her some boxes to be filled with her Yummylicious Ghraiba. As usual, gracious and kind and even said they'll be ready on the same day. I asked for the boxes to be filled with Plain w/ Cardmom Ghraiba and Pistachio Ghriaba. By evening they were ready for pickup!

And this is what's in the boxes.
Ghriaba, a Middle Eastern biscuits,
similar to shortbread biscuits.
Each Arab country has a different
variation in flavor and texture
of this sweet dessert and it is deliciously
consumed with dark Arabic coffee.

At Home Made,
You can get it in the following flavors:
Plain w/ Cardmom, Pistachio, Walnut, Pine Nut,
Sesame, Hazelnut, Pecans
Ghraiba with Chocolate (my favorite!)

What's in Your Handbag?

My handbag is usually messier than this, but because I've changed handbags only few days ago it still looks clean, without the bits of paper, lots of change and lip gloss! I keep at least 4 lip glosses at a time!

My handy dandy note book. I don't go anywhere without
this note book!! It has numbers, emails and lots of lists.
When it is full, I copy the important stuff in a new note book
and store the old one in a box for later reference if needed.

Hmmm....what do we have here...
Breath mints, some change, tissue in the design of a shuma'3
my wallet from Tashkeil,  Tom Ford White Patchouli perfume, a homework list for Abdulaziz, pen, change, Chanel gloss,
Prime & Toast take away menu
(My kids and I love it so we order from it all the time) ;p,
Sultan Center grocery receipt,
a pair of earrings, my pearls, Marina Hotel health
club subscription, a doctors prescription,
and a Godiva chocolate ;p

Now what is in your handbag ;) Share! :)

Gluten Free Campaign in Kuwait

I received this email from our bloggerette sister Danderma to spread a gluten free awareness. I think she is right. Although I don't follow a strict Gluten Free diet, but I do suffer from it and I try to make subsitutions to certain foods from time to time.
Please read her message it is important! and I hope restaurant owners will try to provide a gluten free menu :)

"I am writing to you on behalf on the Gluten Intolerant Diners in Kuwait. You would be surprised at the number of people in Kuwait who cannot consume any thing with gluten (the wheat protein found in anything derived from wheat, barely, rye, and other wheat related items).
I am writing to you because I have once suffered from a period of gluten free diet and I believe the restaurants of Kuwait have extended beyond being a mere culinary outlet as they are considered an important social establishments that our lives revolve around. Therefore no one can really refrain from visiting restaurants in Kuwait. In short, trying to accommodate gluten intolerant diners by offering or highlighting gluten-free items in the menu would be a civilized social initiative on your parts that is highly, if not vitally, appreciated.

What can be done? Anything! From printing out a plain A4 paper with the gluten-free items of your menu and keeping it at the bottom of the menu rack to adding the option of gluten free rice based pasta to the diners and informing your waiters regarding the matter. The pasta is available in many outlets in Kuwait and its dry and taste exactly the same as normal pasta. Also, flour less desserts on the menu or made with semolina or other types of flour are an excellent gluten free yet delicious options.
If nothing can be done on your part, at least allowing gluten intolerant diners to bring their own bread (toast or buns) along when they dine in and informing your waiters of that option would be the least they aim for.

Carluccio's Kuwait offers a gluten-free menu complete with gluten free pasta. Tatami Kuwait and Sugar & Spice bakery also are very accommodating and the latter even would bake cakes and fatayer if gluten free flour was provided for the bakery. In Dubai you could walk into the lime tree cafe and order a full English breakfast complete with gluten free toast and enjoy it thoroughly.

Thank you so much for your time and for reading this email. If you are willing to offer anything to gluten intolerant diners, please inform me so I could inform them with a post on my blog.

Thanks & Regards,
Danderma

I love AlRaha Gluten Free baked goods.
I order their breadds all the time.

Gelato Italiano Snaps

One of our #1 Customers, Miss, Shahad, stopped
by the store for some Gelato and snapped some pics.
She was kind enough to share some her amazing pictures with us.
This is only few of the many snaps she took :)

I love this picture with what's
left of the XO game in the background.

Friday Lunch

Buns from BreadTalk.

Friday morning, it was the Help's day off,
and Fahad wasn't feeling well
so whatever plans I made for that day for the family was cancelled.
Abdulaziz and I went for a quick meeting which concerns him.
When we got back home, Abdulaziz was complaining
it's going to be a boring day.
"Ok...how about you prepare lunch?"
"Really? I can?"
"Yes! You'll prepare the sliders and the salad. I'll do the fries."
He was so excited that he did the work
so well, with a little bit of instructions from me ;)
The food was so good! Tasted better than it looks on the picture.
The Salad was a simple lettuce cucumber and corn,
with a Mayo and mustard dressing.
When kids prepare a meal, they get to enjoy it better than when it
is prepared by someone else.
One of Abdulaziz's summer projects is planning
and preparing some of his meals.

Review: Movies and TV Shows

I haven't been posting much, because I work on most of my posts during the evening when my boys are warmly tucked in their beds. We're done with Exams, and I'm feeling more relaxed after three stressful weeks, I've been spending my evening catching up on movies and TV shows. There are more to the list I've been watching and thought them just plain stupid
and not worthy of mention.

The movie was so predictable, it was a waste of time.

Inappropriately Hilarious!

Very interesting.
An American seminary student
who attends exorcism school at the Vatican finds
faith through encounters with demonic forces.
I loved Anthony Hopkins...he was scary!

I loved the finale! I can't wait for the next season.

My Boys!!! Love Them!
Unfortunately, not a strong season.
I hope they'll do better next season.

I'm in love with this series. They say that
The Godfather was based on this family, The Borgias.

I liked this movie.
A legendary Warrior Priest from the last Vampire War now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on an obsessive quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece's boyfriend, a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly fighting skills.

My baby! Karl Urban, was sooo cute as a Vampire!

Paul Battany was amazing!

I love this movie! My Babies love this movie...
No matter what part of the world they come from
Babies are babies and the cutest thing!
